Boswellia Dosage
There are no standard medical guidelines as to the ideal dosage of boswellia serrata herb or boswellia extract. One option is to take boswellia extract at a dosage of 100 to 300 mg once a day or a few times a week of an extract standardized to contain 30 to 70% boswellic acids.

Q. I have read that boswellis extract supplement should be taken for no more than a few weeks. I've started taking boswellia recently and I don't know how long to take this herb before taking a break from use.
   A. We have not come across long term human trials with boswellia extract supplement to know its long term safety and how often breaks are needed. Plus, each person has a different medical condition, and the length of boswellia extract use could depend on the dosage and how potent a boswellia extract is being taken, and also what other medicines or herbs are being used at the same time. As a general guideline, you may wish to take a day or two off a week and a full week off every two months.

Q. Does Joint Power Rx contain the same level of boswellia extract per capsule as the boswellia extract capsules themselves?
   A. The boswellia supplement product has Boswellia serratta extract at 307 mg and the Joint power Rx has Boswellia extract at100 mg.

Gum resin extracts of Boswellia species have been traditionally applied in folk medicine for centuries. Analysis of the ingredients of these extracts revealed that the pentacyclic triterpenes boswellic acids possess biological activities and appear to be responsible for the respective pharmacological actions. Approaches in order to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the biological effects of boswellic acids identified 5-lipoxygenase, human leukocyte elastase, toposiomerase I and II, as well as IkappaB kinases as molecular targets of BAs. Moreover, it was shown that depending on the cell type and the structure of the boswellic acids, the compounds differentially interfere with signal transduction pathways including Ca(2+/-) and MAPK signaling in various blood cells.
