Researchers in South Korea at the Institute of Medical Science and Jeju National University evaluated the effects of young asparagus shoots and leaves on liver cells from humans and rats. In an extract form, asparagus leaves and shoots significantly eased alcohol's oxidative stress on liver cells and the toxic effects associated with a hangover.
Human research is needed to confirm these preliminary findings in animals.

There are many species of this plant, including asparagus officinalis which has important compounds known as asparagosides. Asparagus racemosus is a member of the same family as the common asparagus.

Questions
How many of these asparagus pills should one take daily or before drinking alcohol or in the morning after?
Due to lack of adequate human studies, it is very difficult to give accurate information on dosage and frequency of use. With medical consultation with your doctor, you could begin with one capsule and gradually increase to up to five capsules at any one time.

Can a person eat asparagus vegetable and still take these pills?
We don't see any reason why there would be a problem.
