Noni, Morinda citrifolia, is a Dietary Supplement

Noni grows extensively throughout the South Pacific and was at one time was a widely used medicinal plant in the region. This evergreen shrub grows especially well in the rich volcanic ash of Hawaii. Some of the constituents of Noni include various terpene compounds, caproic and caprylic acids, vitamin C and alkaloids. Noni is known for the presence of an alkoloid proxeronine, which is believed to be a precursor to xeronine.*

Q. Is it okay to take a noni capsule supplement daily?
   A. Noni supplements appear to not have any side effects, but to be on the safe side it is a good idea to take a week off each month until long term human noni studies are published.

Q. Which has more potent antioxidants, noni, pomegranate, curcumin, acai, goji, or mangosteen?
   A. All of these herbs have healthy antioxidants and it may be good to have a wide variety of small amounts of each rather than a high amount of just one.

Q. Do noni supplements lead to weight loss?
   A. We doubt if taking noni supplements lead to weight loss. We have not seen human studies regarding the role of noni supplements in appetite suppression or weight loss.

Q. I am interested in your noni product. Specifically, I would like to know how much proxeronine is in your noni product.
   A. The raw material supplier we purchase noni from has not tested the proxeronine content. Noni has dozens of compounds that influence the body, and sometimes people tend to focus on one or two compounds that are being hyped rather than clinical trials that show what would happen if the whole herb is taken with all of its substances.
