Carnosine is a small molecule composed of the amino acids histidine and alanine. Carnosine is found in relatively high concentrations in several body tissues —most notably in skeletal muscle, heart muscle, nerve tissue and brain. The exact biological role of carnosine is not well understood, but many studies indicate that carnosine has potent antioxidant activity. Carnosine may also act as a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger in the nervous system). Carnosine generates nitric oxide as good or better than arginine. Nitric oxide helps dilate blood vessels.

Q. What is the right dosage of carnosine supplement? I see carnosine supplement bottles that say take 2 to 4 carnosine 600 mg capsules while on some websites the carnosine dosage recommendation is less.
   A. The effective and safe l carnosine dosage for long term use is not clear. A carnosine dosage of 100 to 200mg a few times a week seems safe.Nobody knows for sure what the ideal dosage of carnosine is in humans, and every person is different, however as a general guideline, we believe the lower amounts are probably just fine and people can open a 500 mg carnosine capsule and take a portion of it.

Q. Can carnosine supplement be taken the same day as Mind Power Rx?
   A. It's possible. First learn how each supplement works by itself in your case, and then once you know how you feel from each one separately, then you may combine a carnosine supplement with Mind Power Rx or other supplements.

Q. I am looking for carnosine at 100 mg or 200 mg. Do you supply different strengths of carnosine?
   A. We only carry carnosine 500 mg but it is easy to open a capsule by pulling on each side, pouring our a portion in a glass of water or juice, and closing the capsule to use the rest another day.

Carnosine is a neuroprotective dipeptide consisting of beta-alanine and L-histidine. It demonstrates a number of useful features, including stimulation of brain and muscle microcirculation and a rejuvenating effect on cultured cells. Its activity is based on its antioxidant and antiglycating action that, in addition to heavy metal chelation and pH-buffering ability, makes carnosine an essential factor for preventing neurodegeneration and accumulation of senile features. We conclude that carnosine can be recommended for patients under oxidative stress as a natural remedy having high efficiency and few side effects.
