Ashwagandha Side Effects:Significant ashwagandha side effects have not yet been reported in the medical literature, but long term studies are not yet available. Nevertheless, it is best to take breaks from use, for instance, one can take a week off each month or take the herb 3 or 4 times a week as opposed to daily. QuestionsQ. Can I take ashwaganda supplement along with bacopa and ginseng? A. Taking too many herbs along with ashwagandha may lead to a feeling of being stimulated too much. It is best to be cautious when combining several herbs and to use low amounts. Q. Does ashwagandha herb cause a feeling of relaxation? A. In small doses it can. In high dosages, such as more than 500 mg or 1000 mg, the relaxation may be eclipsed by a feeling of restlessness. You may consider at first using less than a full ashwagandha extract 500 mg capsule. If you are taking a regular pill that is not an extract, then 500 mg is a good starting dose.
Q. Since ashwagandha root is an Ayurvedic herb, are there any dietary restrictions when taking it? I am from India, and I remember that when ever we took Ayurvedic medication, certain foods were to be avoided. A. There are no dietary restrictions while taking an ashwagandha supplement.
Q. What is the best time to take ashwagandha supplements, on an empty stomach, or during and/or after meals. I also found, that ashwagandha makes you sort of sleepy during the day time. A. Most herbs are better absorbed on an empty stomach. In some people, certain preparations of ashwagandha can lead to sleepiness or a very relaxed feeling. For those who are tense and anxious, and hyper alert, ashwagandha can be taken during the day, for others, ashwagandha is best taken in the evening. The ashwagandha dosage could make a difference, too. There are many ashwagandha products on the market, Some are regular powders, others are concentrated extracts. Each product will have its own different effect so you may need to find out what kind of effect the particular ashwagandha product you buy has on you. We suggest your very first time that you take half a capsule and then experiment with different amounts to see how it makes you feel.
Q. Can bacopa monniera pills be taken together with ashwagandha pills? What about Mind Power Rx? A. In low dosages, yes. We suggest first taking each one by itself. Take a bacopa pill for a few days, take a break for a couple of days, then take ashwagandha pills for a few days. If you decide to combine both herbal supplements, take half a pill of each.
