Inulin supplement questions
Q. I am considering taking inulin supplement, but I would like to know more. What if any are inulin side effects? How much do I take each day. Can inulin be taken with a statin drug, such as Lipitor or Zocor? Is inulin supplement recommended for women over 50?
   A. No significant inulin side effects have been noted in the medical literature. In very high doses there could be minor side effects mostly related to the gastrointestinal system such as cramping or nausea. Each person takes inulin as needed, there is no accepted dosage or RDA guideline. Start with small amounts of a quarter teaspoon at first and base future intake on your experience and your doctor's suggestions. We have not seen any research with statin drug use and inulin so we don't know if there are any interactions. We are not aware of any age restrictions regarding the use of inulin.

If you buy inulin fiber supplement along with glucomannan, psyllium, or other fibers, learn how each one works by itself. Unless taken in high dosages, we don't foresee any serious side effects when these fibers are taken the same day. Perhaps you can take inulin, psyllium and glucomannan each at a different meal.
