Vitamin E supplement questions:
Q. What is the tight amount of vitamin E to be taken daily. I have heard various ranges from 30 units to 1000 units a day.
   A. Medical doctors, researchers, nutritionists, and various health care providers have different opinions on the ideal vitamin E dosage. Dr. Ray Sahelian says a range of 20 units to 100 units a day is appropriate for most people. Since vitamin E is fat soluble and is stored in the body, one can take a vitamin E 400 unit softgel a couple of times a week. As already said, different doctors will have different opinions and no one knows for sure the ideal dosage. Some people may not even require any additional vitamin E whereas others many need 100 units or more. Much depends on one's diet.

Q. Can a vitamin E supplement be taken with the antioxidant acetylcysteine?
   A. Vitamin E supplements can be taken together with other antioxidants, but the dosage of each should be reduced. Acetylcysteine and vitamin E supplements need not be taken daily, but a few times a week.

Vitamin D dosage
Q. What is the right dosage for vitamin E when taken for years?
   A. Medical doctors still don't have the answer to the question as the ideal vitamin E dosage. Some doctors do not think people need to take any amount of vitamin E supplements, whereas other doctors recommend a daily intake of 100 to 400 units a day. Much depends on one's diet and dietary intake of this vitamin. As a general guideline, it seems safe to take 20 to 100 units of vitamin E most days of the week or a 400 unit vitamin E pill once or twice a week.
