Serrapeptase info - originally from silkworm
Serrapeptase or Serratiopeptidase, is an enzyme isolated from a microorganism in silkworm. The silkworm has serrapeptase (AKA Serratio Peptidase or serratiopeptidase). Our serrapeptase supplement product is derived from a fermentation process from the microorganism Serratia E-15 in a laboratory. Our enteric coated serrapeptase product is of the highest quality available.
Serrapeptase side effects
Serrapeptase side effects are not common. A look at serrapeptase enzyme published studies reveals a rare cases of pneumonitis and one case of a dermatitis skin disease reported in 1989. In the past few years of selling serrapeptase products, and after thousands of bottles sold, we have only had 2 individuals report serrapeptase side effects - muscle aches. We are not sure if these were related to serrapeptase or a coincidence. Both individuals were taking more than 40,000 units serrapeptase dosage a day. Limit your serrapeptase dosage to one tablet a day and take 2 days off each week just to be on the safe side and have medical approval before use. Otherwise, we have not had any other reports or found any published research regarding other serrapetpase side effects.

Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, modified cellulose, gum, stearic acid, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and pH resistant enteric coating.
Serrapeptase is also known as serratio peptidase, serratiopeptidase and sometimes spelled as serratia peptidase. Most studies with serrapeptase have been done in Japan.
Serrapeptase supplement questions
Q. I have been on another brand. I went to order your brand and the mg are different. I have been taking 2000 mcg tablets twice a day and yours is measured in mgs. I don't know how to convert it. Isn't there 1000 mcgs in one mg?
A. Yes, that is right,1000 mcg equals one mg. Our serrapeptase product is made by Marlyn Neutraceuticals in Arizona, one of the few facilities approved by the FDA for making enzymes.
Q. Can I take serrapeptase enzyme and nattokinase enzyme the same day?
A. We have not seen any studies combining the two enzymes, and to be on the safe side we suggest not taking them together unless your doctor is familiar with both and approves.
Q. My doctor has suggested serrapeptase enzyme for me. One concern I have is that I have a lap band. I know they are enteric coated because it is important for the serrapeptase to be intact as it passes through the
stomach to the intestines. I will be having my lap-band unfilled, which will allow a pill about the size of a pencil eraser to get through undamaged. Can you tell me
the approximate size and shape of the serrapeptase pill?
A. This serrapeptase tablet is one centimeter in diameter and 0.4 cm thick at the widest central area. A LAP-BAND System is an adjustable gastric band designed for weight loss.
Q. Can a serrapeptase supplement be taken along with other systemic enzymes such as those found in Wobenzym?
A. Since human studies are lacking regarding the combination of serrapeptase in conjunction with other systemic enzymes, we suggest not using them together until studies are completed.
Q. How long can serrapetase enzyme be safely taken when used daily?
A. We don't have an answer to this question. Much depends on your medical condition and the reason the serrapeptase is being used. We recommend medical approval regarding the use of serrapeptase, particularly if you plan to take it for many weeks or months.
Q. How is it manufactured? Do they kill silkworms to do it? I have several friends who are interested in a serrapeptase product but they are all vegetarians.
A. Serrapeptase is made by specific bacteria found in the gut of silkworms and these bacteria "digest" their cocoons. That is the extent of our knowledge, the exact steps are not revealed to us by the manufacturer.
Q. I am in regular receipt of your Newsletter, which is absolutely fabulous. I have a query. I am taking a serrepeptase product from another company, and when my supply finishes would like to change to your product but am confused on dosages. I have been taking two tablets twice daily - 20,000 units (10mg) serratia peptidase, as recommended on the bottle. However, I note that your dosage is 20,000 units but equivalent to 200mg and dosage is one per day - can you please clarify for me - is one of your tablets actually 20 times stronger?
A. This is a good question. We have our products made at Marlyn Nutraceuticals in Arizona, a FDA approved facility and they are experts in enzyme manufacturing. We follow their quantifying methods on quantifying the dosage and strength of the serrapeptase enzyme supplements. We can't speak for other companies and how they make or quantify their enzyme products so we don't know how to compare ours to theirs. Dr. Sahelian is quite cautious in his approach with these enzymes and he prefers people take less in order to minimize any potential serrapeptase side effects.
Q. On the serrapeptase info page on your site, I read that it does not advocate combining with nattokinase or other systemic enzymes. But I?ve seen enzyme blends with those combinations. So I suppose it is the serrapeptase-only supplement that should not be self-combine with other single enzymatic compounds? Right?
A. There is limited human research with these combinations and therefore we prefer erring on the side of caution and advising against combining full dosage pills of the enzymes. However, it is possible that lower amounts of each could be combined safely. Since we do not have studies to guide us, at this point we choose to remain on the side of caution to avoid any possible unforeseen adverse events.
Q. I am interested in buying serrapeptase. I read your statement "It is manufactured by a FDA approved facility.? Is this facility in the USA?
A. Yes, this product is made by a FDA approved facility in Arizona called Marlyn Neutraceuticals who manufactures pharmaceutical products.
Q. You sell 60 tablets and the web instructions of how to take it tells to take for 5 days and than ask your doctor. How I suppose to take it without going to the doctor and paying him $300.00 for a visit before continuing taking your product.
A. Many people do not realize that certain vitamins, herbs and supplements are potent and have important effects on the body. Therefore we suggest medical consultation and it is up to each person to decide whether they wish to do so or not. We also recognize that most doctors are not very familiar with the uses of supplements. But, ultimately, it is up to the consumer and their health care provider to decide which products to buy and how to use them and how often to take them and how to combine them with other natural products and prescription medications.
