Nature's Way

Boswellia Serrata herbal extract is a Dietary Supplement

Boswellia Serrata extract is now found with glucosamine, chondroitin, curcumin, and other supplements in a popular joint heatlh formula called Joint Power Rx, formulated by Dr. Ray Sahelian, M.D.

Boswellia Extract is standardized to 65% boswellic acids. It is concentrated from the specially processed resins and gums of the Boswellia serratta tree. The effects of boswellia are due to the presence of four triterpene acids, especially B-eta boswellic acid.

Boswellia serrata is an Ayurvedic plant that contains triterpenoids called boswellic acids. Dried extracts of the resin of the Boswellia serrata tree have been used since antiquity in India.

We carry several highly popular all natural products formulated by a herbal scientist Ray Sahelian, M.D. These include Mind Power Rx for better mood, focus, alertness, and concentraion; Eyesight Rx for better vision; MultiVit Rx for more energy and vitality; Prostate Power Rx for a healthy prostate gland; Passion Rx for sexual enhancement in men and women.

Boswellia supplement questions
Q. I have read that boswellis extract supplement should be taken for no more than a few weeks. I've started taking boswellia recently and I don't know how long to take this herb before taking a break from use.
   A. We have not come across long term human trials with boswellia extract supplement to know its long term safety and how often breaks are needed. Plus, each person has a different medical condition, and the length of boswellia extract use could depend on the dosage and how potent a boswellia extract is being taken, and also what other medicines or herbs are being used at the same time. As a general guideline, you may wish to take a day or two off a week and a full week off every two months.

Q. Does Joint Power Rx contain the same level of boswellia extract per capsule as the boswellia extract capsules themselves?
   A. The boswellia supplement product has Boswellia serratta extract at 307 mg and the Joint power Rx has Boswellia extract at100 mg.

Study and review
Boswellic acids: biological actions and molecular targets.
Curr Med Chem. 2006; Poeckel D, Werz O. Department of Pharmaceutical Analytics, Institute of Pharmacy, Eberhard-Karls-University Tuebingen, Auf der Morgenstelle 8, 72076 Tuebingen, Germany.
Gum resin extracts of Boswellia species have been traditionally applied in folk medicine for centuries. Analysis of the ingredients of these extracts revealed that the pentacyclic triterpenes boswellic acids possess biological activities and appear to be responsible for the respective pharmacological actions. Approaches in order to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the biological effects of boswellic acids identified 5-lipoxygenase, human leukocyte elastase, toposiomerase I and II, as well as IkappaB kinases as molecular targets of BAs. Moreover, it was shown that depending on the cell type and the structure of the boswellic acids, the compounds differentially interfere with signal transduction pathways including Ca(2+/-) and MAPK signaling in various blood cells.

Read new boswellia serrata research. If you buy a boswellia supplement along with Joint Power Rx, you may wish to first learn how each one works by itself for a week before combining. If your health care provider approves to take this herb along with a joint health formula, take no more than one boswellia pill a day.
